Based on user activity during the holiday season, the real estate website forecasts a busy 2026
These are the properties on Rightmove that received the most views on Boxing Day.
During the holiday season, a record number of prospective home buyers and sellers took a break from crackers and Cluedo with the in-laws to browse properties on Rightmove in what has been dubbed the Boxing Day bounce.
According to Rightmove data, Boxing Day 2025 visits to the property website exceeded the previous record set in 2024, as buyers were encouraged by declining mortgage rates and slower growth in home prices.
According to Rightmove, user numbers doubled from the slowest day of the year, Christmas Day, to Boxing Day, a greater increase in visits than the previous year.
In the five days following Christmas compared to the five days prior, there was a 67% increase in the number of people contacting real estate brokers to visit and view properties in order to purchase a property for sale.
According to the data, there were over twice as many new properties listed for sale on Rightmove in the five days following Christmas as there were in the five days prior.
Typical first-time buyer homes with up to two bedrooms were the most popular type of properties to be listed for sale, and the southeast was the busiest area for listings.
It's unclear if users are actually looking to buy or sell a house or if they're just perusing.
The guests had a variety of interests, regardless of their motivations.
During Boxing Day, the most sought-after real estate agent listings on Rightmove range from affordable first-time buyer homes to properties worth millions of pounds.
According to Rightmoves chief data officer Steve Pimblett, this may indicate that the housing market is off to a busy start this year.
"There is a huge variety of homes in the Boxing Days most viewed list, highlighting the different types of buyers that are getting ready for a potential 2026 move," he stated.
"As usual, the list includes some gorgeous large family homes with opulent features, but there are also some really well-presented smaller properties that are ideal for prospective first-time buyers. The top ten include homes in England, Scotland, and Wales as well as a variety of urban hotspots with commuter connections to large cities and private residences close to lots of green space. The "

The Boxing Day activity, according to Nathan Emerson, CEO of the estate agency trade association Propertymark, is a reflection of the high level of pent-up demand from buyers who are actively preparing their next move in 2026.
"Strong online interest must be matched by confidence in the wider market," he continued. In order for this demand to result in completed sales, buyers need assurances regarding supply, affordability, and the actual home-buying process.
As we continue into 2026, maintaining momentum will depend on advancing much-needed reforms to speed up and ease transactions, assisting first-time buyers, and improving the delivery of housing. The "
