How much would it cost to purchase a home in one of the happiest areas of Great Britain?

In Britain's happiest region, average asking prices for real estate are lower than the national average

Have you ever wondered where the happiest places to live are and how much they cost? Well, the results for 2025 are in, and North Yorkshire's Skipton has emerged victorious.

The market town, also referred to as the entry point to the Dales, is at the top of Rightmoves' most recent annual Happy at Home index, which polled thousands of people throughout Britain about everything from access to green spaces to the friendliness of their neighbors.

Skipton, which is less than 45 minutes away from Leeds by train, finished second in 2020 and sixth in 2024 before surpassing its competitors to take the top spot this year.

Because of its close proximity to nature, welcoming residents, and easy access to vital services like doctors and schools, it received a high ranking.

The affordability of housingthe average asking price of a home in the area is 326,093, which is less than the national average of 364,833 in Novemberwas another reason given by locals for feeling free to be who they truly are.

Skipton has the second-cheapest average asking price among the top ten happiest towns in Britain, only surpassed by Stirling in Scotland, where the average asking price is 226,547.

According to Rightmove, living in Richmond-upon-Thames, Greater London, is the second happiest place in Britain. The town's close proximity to nature and the caliber of its eateries and retail establishments were highly rated by locals.

Despite the average asking price of 942,522, property prices there are not cheap.

Camden, another location in London, is in third place. For the first time in the 14-year history of Rightmoves Happy at Home Index, the North London suburb is included in the top 10 list.

The happiest places to live in Wales and Scotland were determined to be Stirling and Anglesey, respectively.

Additionally, Rightmove ranked the level of satisfaction among London's 33 boroughs' citizens.

Although Camden and Richmond were ranked first and second, a few other noteworthy locations were at the top of the list.

After Southwark and Merton, Wandsworth in southwest London is the third most contented neighborhood in the city.

One of the poorest boroughs in London, Kingston-upon-Thames and Tower Hamlets, was included in the top ten.

On the other hand, residents of Croydon, Bexley, and Hillingdon, as well as those in Barking and Dagenham, Newham, and Havering, are the least content.

Not so youthful joy?

According to the Rightmoves Index, there is a relationship between your age and your level of satisfaction with your current residence.

The age group that was least likely to report being content with their living situation was 18 to 24. On the other hand, people 65 years of age and older were the most likely to report feeling satisfied.

One of the main factors influencing people's happiness was whether or not they lived in towns and areas near nature.

According to the study, people who live close to a national park or Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are generally happier than people who don't.

People who live in the east midlands are generally the least happy, while those who live in the south west are generally the happiest.

The southwest was mentioned by those who said they would be happier relocating to a different area.
