According to new research, both first-time homebuyers and homemovers searching for the perfect place to live in 2026 may find that the North offers the best lifestyle and property price potential.

The 2026 Best Places to Live Index, which identifies locations with the ideal combination of affordability, natural beauty, excellent schools, employment opportunities, and a high quality of life for those looking to purchase a home, heavily features towns in Greater Manchester.

The top cities, towns, and villages in England and Wales with more than 5,000 inhabitants are ranked in the annual league table based on eighteen different criteria.

This includes being close to National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, air quality, crime statistics, good state schools, high-paying jobs, transportation, and broadband connections.

Garrington Property Finders, one of the biggest independent real estate brokers in Britain, conducted the analysis, which ranked 1447 locations.

Marple, a charming town nine miles from central Manchester on the outskirts of the Peak District, has been named the best place to live in 2026 out of over 1,400 communities in England and Wales.
