A return to the workplace, families seeking more affordable housing options, and improved transportation connections are upending the commuter belt.
According to real estate agent Savills, the competition for space that characterized the coronavirus era, when buyers snatched up rural and coastal properties, has lessened.
However, the conventional commuter belts are still being pushed farther than they were prior to the pandemic by second steppers and expanding families with less equity as a result of a weak macroeconomic environment and rising mortgage rates.

Savills created a list of locations with direct-line train stations in London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Edinburgh that offer the cheapest season tickets, along with an estimate of the cost of homes in these areas.
Hotspots for commuters outside of London.

The greenbelt village of Iver, with average house prices of about 540,000, is perfect for buyers seeking rural living with easy access to the capital.

The cost of a house in this Southend-on-Sea inner city neighborhood is a reasonable 295,326, and it takes less than an hour to travel by train from Prittlewell station to Liverpool Street in London.
With property prices only 25,000 higher than the UK average of 270,259, this is the perfect location for people seeking seaside living close to the capital, even though an annual season ticket costs £5,120.
Northamptonshire: Corby.
The average house price in Corby is 225,245, making it an affordable option for buyers seeking a more remote location with lots of green spaces.
London St. Pancras is only 66 minutes away by train from the town's main train station, but a season ticket costs 10,624 per year.

Oadby, Wigston, and South Wigston.
With about 7,000 residents, this sizable town near Leicester has a direct line train that travels 49 minutes to Birmingham New Street station.
Even though the average house price is less than £250,000, a season ticket will cost you an additional £3,972 annually.

Additionally, the average cost of a property is only £155,947. The village, which has about 5,000 residents, has two elementary schools, a golf course, a gym and pool, and a library.

Season tickets cost 2,396, and the train ride from Stirling to Edinburgh Waverley takes 50 minutes. The average cost of a home is slightly higher, at 215,224.
The town, which is close to the Ochil Hills and is referred to as the Gateway to the Highlands, is home to several prestigious elementary and secondary schools, a university, and the historic National Wallace Monument, which honors Sir William Wallace.
