In 2026 and 2027, NatWest plans to close 32 of its locations

Will this have an impact on your local area?

NatWest has revealed plans to close 32 more bank branches as part of its most recent network closures.

The large high street bank will close its branches from May 2026 to February 2027. Affected clients will receive letters in the mail.

NatWest will proactively reach out to vulnerable customers who require additional assistance, instructing them on how to lessen the impact.

In the locations where branches are closing, the bank is also setting up community pop-ups where advisors will assist clients with routine banking duties.

To minimize the impact that any change may have on our customers and coworkers, we carefully consider where and when to make the difficult decision to close a branch, according to a NatWest spokesperson.

Since 2020, NatWest has invested £115 million in its current bank branches, and it says it intends to continue to invest in its network over the following three years.

It has also contributed to the operation of Post Office-run community banking hubs.

But since 2022, it has declared that 378 of its branches will close, with over 100 closing in 2025 alone.

NatWest has announced that 32 of its branches will close between May 2026 and February 2027. The list is below.

NatWest is closing branches; why?

NatWest stated that "our network and services need to reflect customer demand and ensure we are set up to deliver the best possible support" because the way its customers choose to bank is evolving.

According to the bank, more and more clients are choosing to conduct their banking online rather than in-person.

According to a 2025 survey conducted by financial comparison website Finder, close to 90% of British citizens used online banking in 2024, up from 57% in 2014.

Thousands of bank branches have been closed by a number of other banks since 2015, including Barclays, Santander, and Lloyds Banking Group. Which, a consumer advocate, estimates that 6,693 closed between January 2015 and January 2026.

Although they have made promises not to close any more branches, Nationwide Building Society and HSBC have also closed branches in the past.

HSBC initially promised to stop closing any more branches in 2023, while Nationwide initially promised to keep its remaining branches open until 2026 in 2019.

If the branch in your area is closing, what can you do?

You might be wondering what your options are in the event that your local branch closes if you prefer in-person banking over online or mobile banking.

Your local post office can handle the majority of your basic banking needs, but you won't be able to open a new bank account or apply for a loan there.

A mobile branch service is provided by certain banks, which send a bus to your neighborhood to provide services that are typically available at a physical branch.

To provide banking services, other banks use structures like libraries or village halls.

It's worthwhile to get in touch with your bank to find out what services they offer and when they might be in your area again.

You could also check to see if your neighborhood has a banking center. A list of all the operational hubs is available on the Post Office's website.

As an alternative, you could move your existing account to a building society or bank with branches nearer to you.

Most of the time, the Current Account Switch Service (CASS) allows you to switch current accounts for free. Check out our guide to the top deals on bank switching.
